Neurodiversity: Managers Workshop

Accredited Training

A hands-on workshop that builds on the Aware webinar to embed lasting change around neurodiversity in your team. Managers leave able to confidently articulate their organisation’s commitment to an inclusive workplace, whatever sector they work in.

Neurodiversity: Managers Workshop

Course Overview

This neurodiversity training for managers goes beyond theory. It gives managers practical tools for effective management, clearer communication, reducing team conflict and creating more inclusive working environments.

Delivered by Changing Minds Training, the workshop is practical, supportive and grounded in real workplace experiences. It helps managers feel more confident supporting neurodivergent colleagues while also recognising the value of respect, reasonable adjustments and kind, consistent management.

What is the Neurodiversity: Managers Workshop?

The Framework

The Neurodiversity: Managers Workshop is a hands-on training course that helps managers understand neurodiversity in the workplace and apply that understanding in everyday management situations.

Neurodivergent colleagues may experience work, communication, expectations, sensory environments and team dynamics differently. Managers can play an important role in reducing barriers, supporting confidence and creating working environments where people are better able to contribute.

This workshop helps managers explore practical ways to support neurodivergent staff, including how to observe behaviour without unconscious bias, understand hidden workplace rules and use the Triangle of Support as a respectful framework for managing neurodivergent individuals in line with the Equality Act.

The course does not ask managers to become clinicians or experts. Instead, it helps them build awareness, use clearer communication, respond with curiosity rather than judgement and take practical steps towards better inclusion.

The Neurodiversity: Aware Webinar is a mandatory prerequisite for this workshop, helping learners arrive with a shared foundation in key terminology, common neurodivergent conditions and the positive impact of reasonable adjustments.

Format & Delivery

The workshop is practical and interactive, with space for reflection, group discussion and activities that help managers understand neurodivergent experiences more clearly.

Changing Minds Training creates a warm and respectful learning space where managers can ask questions, explore uncertainty and build confidence without judgement. The focus is on practical understanding, better communication and thoughtful management.

What does the workshop cover?

The Neurodiversity: Managers Workshop explores the key areas managers need when supporting neurodivergent colleagues at work.

Understanding neurodiversity

Learners begin by recapping key neurodiversity terminology and the main neurodivergent conditions.

This helps managers develop a shared language and a clearer understanding of how different neurodivergent profiles may show up in workplace settings.

The workshop also explores strengths commonly associated with different conditions, helping managers move away from deficit-based thinking and recognise the value neurodivergent colleagues can bring to a team.

Executive functioning

Managers explore executive functioning and its role in daily life.

This includes how executive functioning can affect planning, organisation, prioritising, time management, working memory, emotional regulation and task completion.

A hands-on activity helps learners experience an executive functioning challenge, supporting greater empathy and understanding.

Inclusion and workplace culture

The workshop explores why neurodiversity inclusion matters within wider diversity and inclusion work.

Managers consider how workplace systems, expectations and assumptions can create barriers for neurodivergent staff. They also explore how hidden workplace rules can affect productivity and performance.

This helps managers reflect on what is expected, what is communicated clearly and what may be assumed without being explained.

Communication

Clear communication is a core part of effective neuroinclusive management.

Learners explore how complex communication can be and why communication breakdowns are rarely one-sided. This encourages managers to think carefully about instructions, feedback, expectations, meetings and team conversations.

The focus is on reducing uncertainty, preventing low morale and helping teams communicate more clearly.

Sensory overload and sensory-safe environments

The workshop explores sensory overload and how meltdowns and shutdowns can happen and affect people.

Managers consider ways to build more inclusive, sensory-safe working environments, including practical changes that may reduce unnecessary stress or overwhelm.

Anxiety and wellbeing

Learners explore how anxiety can be triggered by external factors and how to recognise and regulate it in themselves and others.

The workshop also introduces practical tools for a mental health and wellbeing toolbox, supporting managers to respond with care when someone may be distressed or struggling.

Behaviour as communication

Managers are encouraged to understand behaviour as communication.

This helps shift the focus away from judgement and towards curiosity, support and problem-solving. Rather than asking what is wrong with someone, managers are supported to consider what may be happening, what barriers may exist and what support could help.

Reasonable adjustments

The workshop explores the positive impact of reasonable adjustments and where to start implementing them.

Managers consider how adjustments can support confidence, productivity and wellbeing, and how to approach conversations with respect and kindness.

Managing with respect and kindness

A key part of the workshop is the Triangle of Support, a framework for managing neurodivergent individuals with respect and kindness, in line with the Equality Act.

This gives managers a practical structure to support clearer, fairer and more compassionate management.
