A half-day MHFA England accredited course for mental health awareness in the workplace. Help make wellbeing part of everyday conversations, learn about some common mental health conditions and how to challenge stigma.

Become Mental Health Aware

Course Overview

The Mental Health Aware course is a half-day training course designed to give learners a clear introduction to mental health and wellbeing. It explores what mental health is, how stigma can affect people, how common mental health issues may present and how to begin supportive conversations with care.

This mental health awareness training is a helpful entry point for organisations that want to start building confidence around mental health conversations. It is accessible, practical and suitable for a wide range of workplaces, teams and community settings.

This course helps learners feel more confident recognising when someone may need support, while also encouraging self-care and awareness of their own mental health and wellbeing.

What is Mental Health Aware training?

The Framework

Mental Health Aware training is an introductory course that helps learners develop a foundational understanding of mental health.

It is designed for people who may not need the full Mental Health First Aid course, but who would still benefit from greater awareness, confidence and practical tools. The course raises awareness of what mental health is, how to challenge stigma, common mental health issues and how to support someone in distress

We want to give you a supportive introduction to mental health and help you understand the role that you can play in noticing concerns, listening with empathy and signposting towards appropriate support.

For workplaces, Mental Health Aware training can be a valuable first step in helping mental health become part of everyday conversations. It supports a more open and compassionate culture where people feel better equipped to look after themselves and others.

Who Is This Course For?

Audiences

This course is suitable for anyone who wants a foundational understanding of mental health and how to support colleagues.

It is a broad entry point for many different organisations, including SMEs, corporate teams, care homes, GP practices and voluntary sector health providers. Mental Health Aware training may be especially useful for:

HR and wellbeing teams
Line managers and team leaders
Corporate teams
Care staff
Clinical teams
NHS trusts
Voluntary sectory health providers
General employees

The course is ideal if you want to improve awareness across a wider group of people without requiring everyone to complete a longer Mental Health First Aid qualification.

It can also work well as part of a broader wellbeing strategy, helping staff build shared language and confidence around mental health.

What Will Learners Gain From The Course?

By the end of the Mental Health Aware course, learners will have a better understanding of mental health and how to support someone who may be struggling.

Learners will explore how to:

  • Understand what mental health is
  • Challenge stigma around mental health
  • Build basic knowledge of common mental health issues
  • Look after their own mental health and wellbeing
  • Recognise signs that someone may be experiencing distress
  • Feel more confident supporting someone experiencing a mental health issue

The course is designed to be practical and reassuring. It helps learners understand that they don’t need to have all the answers to offer helpful first-level support.

Instead, the focus is on listening, responding with compassion, recognising when further support may be needed and knowing where to signpost.

The Mental Health Aware course is delivered over half a day.

Format & Delivery

It can be delivered: face-to-face or online. The course includes presentations, group discussion and workshop activities
